PROJECT SUMMARY
The owners of this garden had enjoyed the space with different generations of children utilising play equipment and the lawn, but the time had come to design a new environment for relaxation and entertaining. Curves were important, as well as capturing the best of the weather, and getting some protection from the wind. The client is delighted with the final outcome, as are we.

“Amanda has created a brilliant design for our rear garden. After 30 years of use by children, grandchildren and lack of time spent on it, our garden was in desperate need of attention. We both enjoy being in gardens and now we are retired wanted our own garden to enjoy, both as a couple and with family and friends. However, we are away from home for several weeks each summer so also needed a garden that would not bolt if left unattended.
Amanda, who is the loveliest, friendly, listening designer you could hope to be working with, seemed to really get what we were looking for and the key aspects that were important to us, including what we wanted to keep. Curves rather than straight lines are something we love, and the finished space gives us such pleasure every time we look at it. She came up with an exceptional plan that was both creative and appropriate and challenged us to think ‘out of the box’. The brilliantly presented designs that blended computer-generated elements and drawings allowed us to visualise this transformation. There was no hurry to proceed so we were able to take our time and tweak certain aspects.
Amanda pointed out that an area we had ignored gets the sun at certain times of the day, so we now have two seating areas, both with a view of our gorgeous garden. We had no idea how to produce year-round colour or succession planting but wanted sensory and wildlife-attracting plants – all done for us now.
We also asked Amanda for help with the landscapers who would carry out the transformation (which took 4 weeks), and Paul and his team from Bespoke Landscapes were amazing – friendly and unbelievably hard working in all weathers.
We will get years of enjoyment out of our bespoke designed space, as well as feeling more confident at planting other things. The final cost came in over budget for various reasons, but we consider it worth every penny and wholeheartedly recommend Hummingbird Garden Design.”
