PROJECT SUMMARY

The natural garden was overgrown, hard to maintain and didn’t provide the structure the homeowner was looking for. We re-designed the garden retaining and enhancing the existing pond, creating a linked design with seating areas, a covered pergola and pathways between. We also built a bespoke Chicken House, and re-built the retaining walls. Many of the materials were re-used from the garden and planting was the finishing touch to attract wildlife and soften the garden.

KEY POINTS

  • Walls re-built to retain upper level.
  • New patio for dining added to the sunny part of the garden.
  • Pathways edged with cobbles from the garden, different entry points linked with the entertaining areas, pergola and shed.
  • New deck by the pond which had the rockery enhanced.
  • New shed painted to match the exterior doors on the rear of the property.
  • Bespoke pergola to provide sheltered seating all year round.
  • Bespoke water feature created from a piece of sandstone found in the garden.
  • Chicken’s housed in a bespoke enclosure.
  • New shed painted to match the exterior doors.
  • Planting adds the final touch to enhance the natural feel of the garden.

Before

AFTER

“We had a very old and large garden that was impossible, with the time we had, to keep maintained.  We knew the garden had potential, but we couldn’t see how we could reasonably fulfil that potential; it just felt far too big and challenging a project for us.

From the initial concept meeting we felt Amanda grasped our brief.  She listened carefully, made suggestions and enabled and empowered us to refine our thoughts.  We discussed how we wanted to use the garden alongside the amount of work we would wish to do in the garden in the future.  We discussed themes and built upon those themes with ideas and concepts.  Amanda then produced a plan that both inspired and excited us.  We were overjoyed by her imagination and insight.

Through the landscaping process Amanda was always available.  She responded very quickly to any questions or queries and was always patient and kind.  As the garden developed she was open to our ideas and reflections, but brought to bear her knowledge and experience to ensure we didn’t go off-piste.  Importantly for us Amanda embraced our ideas around sustainability, as we progressed the landscaping of the garden we reused materials wherever possible; Amanda was flexible throughout.

We now love our garden.  The brief has been fulfilled.  Amanda was enthusiastic, engaging and energised.  Amanda’s design and her management of the execution of the design means the garden is both manageable and beautiful; my wife and I are absolutely delighted with the final outcome.”
